IAAC launches the 2024 Summer Workshops

The Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) in Barcelona announces a new edition of its Global Summer School (GSS), marking another milestone in fostering global collaboration and innovation in the fields of architecture and design.

For over 14 years, the IAAC has been at the forefront of facilitating the exchange of knowledge and experience among architects, engineers, designers, and innovators worldwide. The GSS brings together students from diverse backgrounds to engage with the IAAC’s network of renowned experts and faculty.

10th Docomomo North and Northeast Seminar

The 10th Docomomo North and Northeast Seminar, to be held from October 3 to 5, 2024, in Campina Grande, Paraíba, aims to reflect on and discuss the urgent need to shift toward a preservation policy more focused on the conservation of modern heritage. Specifically, the event directs the discussion toward concepts of modernity, tectonics, and the pathologies of modern buildings, while also addressing the paths to be taken for documentary safeguarding, which serves as the foundation for heritage preservation work.

Paço Imperial opens three exhibitions

On April 17, 2024, the Paço Imperial will open three simultaneous exhibitions: "Transmutações: alquimia e resistência" [Transmutation: Alchemy and Resistance] by Rio-based artist Marcela Cantuária, one of the most prominent names in the contemporary visual arts scene; "Davuls de Salé" by São Paulo-based artist Cadu, in collaboration with Adriano Motta, Maneno Juárez, and Virgilio Bahde; and "bassa danza" by Rio-based artist Nathan Braga.

Panmela Castro at the MAR

The exhibition "Radical Ideas About Love," by Rio de Janeiro-based artist Panmela Castro, will open on August 9 at 5:00 PM at the Museu de Arte do Rio (MAR). With a career spanning over 20 years, the artist presents an exhibition of participatory works centered on the psychological concept of the need for belonging as a vital human impulse. Curated by Daniela Labra with curatorial assistance from Maybel Sulamita, the show features 17 works—10 of which are never-before-seen—including performances, photographs, paintings, sculptures, and videos that explore themes such as affectivity, loneliness, visibility, empowerment, self-care, and memory.

CUADRANTE | ART, DESIGN, AND ARCHITECTURE ENCOUNTER 2024

CUADRANTE serves as a meeting point for both emerging and established talent, fostering dialogue and cross-disciplinary collaboration on a national level. The Brasil Visual series holds a preview at Praça do Russel and premieres on Canal Curta!

How have the events of recent years impacted Brazilian visual arts? This is the focus of the "Brasil Visual" series, directed by Rosa Melo, which premieres on June 25, 2024, at 8:30 PM on the Curta! channel. The preview will take place this Saturday, June 22, starting at 5:00 PM at Praça Luís de Camões (Praça do Russel) in Glória. The free, public event will feature the screening of three episodes, a conversation with some of the series' participants, guest DJs, and a pocket show by artist Cabelo. Starting from the visual arts, the series addresses themes that have impacted society as a whole, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the demonstrations that swept the country, and artificial intelligence, while also exploring spirituality and the duality between the worlds of the living and the dead, among others.

IED and Luxottica Open Day 2024 - The future through the lens of design

The Open Day, hosted annually by the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED), invites eyewear retail giant Luxottica to this year's edition to teach the public how to prototype eyewear models as if they were for a new brand within the group. The experience will take place this Saturday, May 4, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the IED-SP campus, located at 617 Maranhão Street.
