BOOMSPDESIGN, the international forum for architecture, design, and art, is heading into its 11th edition, with dates already set: August 27, 28, and 29 at the Lounge da Bienal in Ibirapuera Park, São Paulo. The event is premised on discussing, updating, exploring, thinking, and rethinking design.
José Rodrigues de MIRANDA (Maceió, 1907–Recife, 1985) was born into a humble family and lived in the suburbs of Recife when he was discovered in 1972 by collector Lucien Finkelstein. Finkelstein encouraged him to paint extensively and promoted his work globally, even introducing the artist to Anatole Jakovsky, a leading authority on primitive art and author of the "Dictionary of Naïve Painters of the World."
In this summer architecture workshop for students, participants will reside at the Valley House, a project by our firm located near Vieira do Minho in northern Portugal.

Digital Constructivism, a two-week workshop by the Architectural Association Visiting School (AAVS) taking place at the Torcuato Di Tella University School of Architecture and Urban Studies this coming July, explores the generation of material environments from conceptualization to production. Structured as a series and based on an intensive version of the creative process developed by Diploma Unit 17 of the Architectural Association in London, "Spaces for Knowledge Exchange: New Worlds of Leisure," each instance of the workshop informs the next, advancing its conceptual construction cumulatively. The series is based on the conviction that radical architecture does not require appealing to parallel or fictional worlds, but rather operating through technically precise and spatially creative decisions based on connections with a world that, while increasingly homogeneous, is replete with exceptions, specific conditions, and extraordinary situations. From these, the workshop encourages the production of speculations that transgress established cultural identities in order to define new forms of beauty.

On Saturday, July 7, 2018, at 12:00 PM, a site visit will be held as part of the Architecture and Landscape Ideas Competition for the San Borja Walkways and Surroundings. The meeting point is at Plaza del Pedregal, next to the Unimarc supermarket located at the San Borja Walkways (Universidad Católica Metro station). The site visit is not mandatory for competition entry and is intended for teams that need to visit the site to develop their proposals.
The workshop is designed as an immersion into the culture of the Mhamid Oasis. It involves the restoration of a significant architectural element of its heritage, in collaboration with the local community, utilizing traditional techniques under the guidance of local master builders who introduce participants to methods such as adobe, rammed earth, earthen plasters, and tadelakt. Concurrently, the tangible and intangible heritage that has shaped the landscape over centuries will be studied and documented.
Held as part of ITESO's 60th-anniversary celebrations, this international congress will take place from September 5 to 7, 2018. The event serves as a forum for exchanging academic and professional expertise through a variety of specialized activities, including presentations, lectures, panel discussions, workshops, guided technical tours, and exhibitions. CineCubo is the film club hosted by the Institute of Architects of Brazil (IAB) with the goal of fostering dialogue between audiovisual and architectural languages and debating perspectives on the city. On the third Tuesday of every month at 7:30 PM, CineCubo screens films followed by a discussion at the IAB-SP headquarters. Curated and moderated by Nana Maiolini, Travessia Filmes, and guests, the sessions are free and open to the general public.
Authors Mauricio Gaviria Restrepo and Luis Guillermo Hernández Vázquez will be in conversation with Luis Fernando González Escobar. All are professors at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Medellín campus.
The KÖMMERLING Challenge is KÖMMERLING’s major initiative to contribute to a shift in the construction model, accommodating high-energy-efficiency projects with a viable construction budget by integrating the most efficient and innovative construction techniques. The starting point for this challenge was the unique ‘Edificio Zero KÖMMERLING Architecture Competition,’ held in 2017, which serves as the basis for the brand’s new offices in Spain. The vision of the KÖMMERLING Challenge is built on several pillars: the training of architects; the use of new methodologies that consider not only construction solutions but also processes and workflows; and placing special emphasis on project certification and its various phases.
Bartlebooth launches its seventh experiment, Beyond the Human. This collective publication explores discourses and practices that shift the human from the center of spatial production and understand its position within a global system traversed by multiple tentacles. A reality inhabited by bacteria, animals, waste, bit chains, logistical orders, fungi, cyborgs, territories, ecosystems, and air... A new, multiple body that must be interrogated to understand spatial realities and unveil architectural possibilities that go beyond the human.
