Gessi is a manufacturer of premium architectural bathroom solutions known for combining craftsmanship, innovation, and wellness-driven design. Gessi presents Incastri, a new bathroom collection developed in collaboration with architect Kengo Kuma, expressing a dialogue between Japanese tradition and contemporary design. The series introduces mixers and washbasins defined by tactile surfaces, precise interlocking geometries, and finishes that transform daily water rituals into refined sensory experiences.
Concept & Design
Incastri reflects Kengo Kuma’s design philosophy, where nature, material integrity, and craftsmanship converge. The collection draws from three traditional Japanese references: Chidori, a modular joinery system using interlocking components; Chozu, the purification ritual centered around water; and Yakisugi, a wood-charring technique that enhances durability and depth. These cultural elements are reinterpreted as architectural volumes, textured surfaces, and minimal tubular structures, emphasizing light, shadow, and material tactility.
Collection Characteristics
Essential geometries and balanced intersections define the series, offering countertop, wall-mounted, ceiling-mounted, and floor-standing configurations. The mixers are available in both traditional and suspended versions, with the latter introducing a visually striking floating effect made possible by advanced engineering. Vertical engraving enhances handles and bodies, highlighting a contrast between smooth and textured planes.
The washbasins reinterpret the spirit of Yakisugi through innovative material development, resulting in sculptural forms where water appears still and reflective, evoking calm, purity, and regeneration.
Design Values
Incastri embodies the shared values of Gessi and Kengo Kuma: a respect for tradition, an emphasis on essential forms, and a deep appreciation for water as a sacred and restorative element. The result is a collection that pairs technical precision with poetic minimalism, seamlessly integrating into contemporary architectural spaces.
