Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas International Airport is the largest bamboo reference project in the world to date. The curved bamboo ceiling in Terminal 4, which was added during the 2005 renovation, has become a landmark of the airport with millions of yearly passengers. The ceiling had to meet the highest European fire safety standards. In addition, the ceiling was supposed to have a curved wave design, which would place great technical demands on the material to be used.

It was clear from the beginning that the new terminal would have to be future-proof and sustainable while also effectively supporting the flow of passengers through the airport. MOSO® Bamboo was able to meet all the requirements with a new product: bamboo veneer combined with glass fiber.
MOSO® Bamboo had to make major changes to parts of the processing of the bamboo strips and develop a multi-layered structure of cross-glued veneer to meet the stability needs. 200,000 m² of bamboo ceiling boards were provided for this project.
