More about this product

BŌK Modern specializes in designing and developing innovative architectural metal panel systems. BŌK Modern developed custom Sunshades and Canopies for Leddy Maytum Stacy Architects' Mission Bay South Block 9 residential building.

These 140 supportive studio apartments are located in the rapidly changing Mission Bay area. They were constructed using modular, factory-built methods, which helped to shorten the overall construction schedule. To ensure optimal energy efficiency and occupant well-being, BŌK Modern designed custom sunshades and a canopy system to reduce heat gain, particularly from the south-facing windows. The sunshade pattern includes an integrated mounting system for bird wire installation, and the BŌK Modern support bracket was custom-built for easy integration with the exterior siding. Additionally, a welded shim plate was used to allow the bracket to sit close to the window and conceal the bolt head, resulting in a clean waterproofing detail.

Product System Used

'Nail-On' Sunfin: In this design, the sunshade is directly affixed to the structure, reducing unnecessary complexity. The “nose” of the sunshade can feature either a streamlined knife edge or a smaller flange than what is commonly seen in our system. This versatile application is ideal for snugly fitting against windows with depths of up to 24 inches.

Bracketed Canopy: BŌK Modern's more traditional Bracketed Canopy is available in both a perforated type for sun-shading and a solid type for rain protection. These installations are also available with details that minimize the appearance of the brackets for a cleaner, minimalist appearance.
