Sculptform Design Studio is designed for the Melbourne design and construction industry as a space to work closely with Sculptform products and teams on developing wall and ceiling solutions for projects. The studio space itself showcases Sculptform’s expertise in timber design, upon hearing of their new capabilities in commercializing steam-bent timber, project lead Bruno Mendes from Woods Bagot saw an opportunity to design something unique.
Steam bending was used to create the sweeping curves of the ceiling-to-wall transitions and bulkhead features. As part of Sculptform's new curved timber battens range, this method creates seamless transitions between walls and ceilings.
White Oak Battens
Popular all over the world, White Oak gives a classic timber aesthetic with its beautiful grain patterns and coloring. It was chosen for these properties combined with White Oaks' suitability for bending. All the timber battens throughout are coated with Rubio clear coatings to protect the timber while enhancing the natural grain patterns.
Showcasing the flexibility the Click-on Battens system gives designers, Sculptform included several commonly asked-about details into the design to be used as examples:
- Concealed doors
- Access hatches
- Integrated signage
It made sense for Sculptform to manage the fit-out of the studio with experience in managing the supply and install contracts. The projects team delivered the complete installation, working closely with Exact Ceiling Solutions to install the curved timber.
