Aqua Lunar is a fine-dining bar and restaurant featuring a terrace shaded by MDT-Tex EV membrane umbrella structure. It is set on a post-industrial wharf facing the Daugava river delta. Its setting means that the project focus is on the exterior and its maritime surrounding; the tensile structure sweeps upwards giving the effect of a sail.

The terrace features a specialized cover with an expansive depth -covering 160m2- which still leaves the views open. MDT-Tex worked with Open AD architects to develop a system which would match the architectural framing rhythm of the space and programme.
Technical requirements included a structural analysis for the late application of foundations, steel construction, and textile. A high-performance, matte finish architectural membrane was used which weights 630 g/m2 and has a self-cleaning, PVDF coating with enhanced discoloration resistance, highest grade UV inhibitors, sanitizers, and flame retardants. The textiles ability to adapt to complex shapes was part of the reason it was chosen.
