Abstract:

The presence of nature, along with the relation we have with the other species inhabiting it, is becoming a rare experience, due to the process of urbanization as it is currently defined. This project tries to interrogate, how we can, as designers, generate a new relationship with that wildlife.

In a raw description, the nature’s manifest would revolve around “feeding the birds”. The design is a passage created in the neighborhood. We construct that temporary installation with blocks of seeds, the birds are defined as a main target, but this simple action inevitably attracts the other animals and creates a cycle. We use an already existing interaction and emphasize it.

It becomes a medium of interaction between the species. Indeed, by erecting it during summer, it allows the creatures to live inside this construction, that will ultimately disappear through their actions.

Developed with a minimum impact on the existing land. The blocks are planted using old steel bars to create a testimony of the presence of those species once the installation is completely consumed, while the slope slows down the movement, initiating a moment of contemplation. It is, as well as an urban installation, an artistic work to bring awareness.

The interaction between humans and the other species directly impacts how it is consumed and disappears. The ground is left bare, to welcome the seeds that fall on the so they can grow, and eventually bring a new life in the environment.
