Abstract:

The project proposes a modular, productive and regenerative system based on marine farming, designed to respond to the territorial, ecological, and sociocultural challenges of Chilean Patagonia. It emerges as a critical response to the degradation of marine ecosystems caused by extractive food infrastructures, even within protected areas.

Historically, food systems have been conceived through exclusively functional logics, detached from the cultural and ecological dimensions of the territories in which they operate. In this context, the project proposes a floating and modular infrastructure that articulates production and territorial regeneration through strategies of material efficiency, prefabrication, and adaptability, adopting a low-impact approach.

The system is primarily composed of flotation structures reused from obsolete aquaculture infrastructures, glulam timber structures intended to reduce carbon emissions in construction processes and to challenge the conventional assumptions regarding the use of this material in marine environments, together with programmatic capsules designed to adapt to remote and climatically adverse conditions.

The project establishes a critical stance toward food architectures by proposing the transformation of obsolete models into a system of coexistence capable of articulating relationships between human communities and non-human species, demonstrating that every act of food consumption also entails the consumption of territories.
