Abstract:

This project reimagines a disused two-level freight station in Paris as a civic-industrial hub for material recycling and public repair. Originally built for wine distribution by rail, the site now becomes a platform for new forms of coexistence between people, materials, and the environment.

The architecture brings together processes that are typically separated: construction waste intake, sorting, processing, fabrication, and public-facing reuse. These are organized into a continuous spatial sequence, supported by an overhead crane system constructed from glulam timber. Visitors walk through the site, witness recycling operations, and bring broken household items, such as furniture, appliances, or bicycles, to be repaired with salvaged materials.

Existing timber halls and vaulted stone cellars are preserved and adapted with new infill facades of recycled brick and rammed earth. The project minimizes demolition while spatially combining industrial function with public access.

It is an inclusive space for production, learning, and civic repair. By blurring boundaries between logistics and public use, the project redefines recycling as a social function and reclaims a neglected industrial site as a place of coexistence.
