At a time when urbanization has become planetary and humanity has become a geological force capable of profoundly altering Earth's thermodynamic cycles, it is urgent to reinvent the urban way of life and rehearse other forms of coexistence between humans, animals, and plants—between cities, forests, rivers, and mountains. Furthermore, it is urgent to design, with our feet on the ground and in collaboration with the peoples and sciences of the Earth, the conditions for future habitability.

The São Paulo State Government, through the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy, presents the exhibition “Artacho Jurado in the City’s Design” at the Galeria da Cidade. The exhibition, which focuses on the self-taught architect who designed and built landmarks of modern São Paulo such as the Bretagne, Cinderela, and Louvre buildings, opens to the public on Saturday, September 4—the date marking the 114th anniversary of his birth. The Institute of Architects of Brazil - São Paulo Department (IABsp) has issued an educational call for the 13th International Architecture Biennial of São Paulo. The initiative seeks proposals for the Tramas e Costuras [Weaves and Stitches] program, which will be held in São Paulo from May 21 to July 10, 2022.
Applications for the lato sensu postgraduate program at Escola da Cidade are open until March 11, 2022. Established over 10 years ago, the program consists of seven courses and is structured around two central aspects: practice and design methodology, understood as research and a strategy for engaging with space across its multiple scales. The program’s overarching theme is "Civilization America: A Look Through Architecture," which proposes understanding and addressing the historical, geographical, territorial, and social conditions that define us. Through this lens, Escola da Cidade’s postgraduate courses aim to connect professionals working in architecture, urbanism, and related fields with research and critical reflection applied to design and education.

For this issue of Dearq, "The Spatial Dimension of Urban Mobility," we are seeking contributions that critically analyze the interrelationships between urban mobility, space, and the territorial dimension, while considering social dynamics and environmental aspects. We place special emphasis on understanding how mobility practices, policies, and projects interact with the built environment and contribute to producing—or transforming—urban and regional landscapes.
For this issue of Dearq, "Tectonic Matter," we are seeking contributions that address tectonics not as a style or a fetishization of detail, but as a rigorous field in which the material realities of architecture—such as provenance, craft, labor, structural systems, fabrication protocols, and performance criteria—become inseparable from how space is perceived, inhabited, and understood.
Who can participate: We welcome contributions from architects, historians, theorists, engineers, educators, and researchers addressing this theme. Interdisciplinary approaches and perspectives from specific contexts are encouraged, provided they remain anchored in tectonics as a conceptual and practical field of architectural invention.
The editors invite submissions of research articles, case studies, visual essays, and projects, provided they are original, unpublished, and comply with the journal's editorial policy.

This act, along with the series of events that led to it, inspires us to reflect not only on the future of urban mobility—which is increasingly sensitive to social issues—but, more importantly, on the public's urgent demand for more leisure spaces amidst contemporary urban chaos.

PIXO Journal Issue 10 - Women and Urban Places is seeking submissions that address the theme of women and urban spaces. Submission Stage 1 consists of an Abstract of 600-800 words with 10-15 embedded images that declare and clearly demonstrate the specific research innovation as built, and in the development of being built. High quality images of design and fabrication processes should predominate the selection, with 3-4 images of the work as complete.
The 2027 Edition focuses on rethinking extractive models of architectural production, learning from local contexts, and empowering more diverse communities of designers, makers, and builders. FABRICATE is looking for work that engages meaningfully with material, social, and environmental questions across diverse scales and geographies.
Since its inception FABRICATE has played an important role in promoting innovative work at the intersection of design and making—bringing forward projects that challenge how architecture is conceived, materialized, and constructed. It has been a platform not only for technological advancement, but also for new ways of thinking about practice, materiality, and impact. While FABRICATE has often been associated with advanced manufacturing and robotics, this year FABRICATE is also interested in broad critical shifts in the field.
The event is co-chaired by Areti Markopoulou (Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia) and Xavier De Kestelier (Hassell) aiming to strengthen ties between industry and research.
FABRICATE 2027 will take place on the 14th and 15th May, 2027, in Barcelona, Spain, organised by IAAC and hosted by COAC (Col·legi d'Arquitectes de Catalunya).
