International architecture firm Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF) unveiled today their design for One Central Macau. This luxury 400,000 square foot retail facility as part of a grand scale mixed-use development designed by KPF, and completes yet another key milestone in the city’s continued growth.

Emblematic figure of French architecture, Dominique Perrault gained international recognition after having won the competition for the National French library in 1989 at the age of 36. This project marked the starting point of many other public and private commissions abroad, such as the Velodrome and Olympic Swimming Pool of Berlin in 1992, the Court of Justice of the European Communities in Luxembourg in 1996, the Olympic Tennis Center in Madrid in 2002, the campus of EWHA Womans University in Seoul.

Colombian architects Paisajes Emergentes received second prize for their proposal for the Townshift International Competition in Canada.

The Lisbon Architecture Triennale, which is going to happen from the 14 October to the 16 January 2011, launchs now an International Competition: “A House in Luana: Patio and Pavillion”.

Access to Trestles, one of North America’s most celebrated waves, is under threat due to safety and environmental concerns. Currently, over 100,000 people each year follow informal trails through marshlands and over active train tracks to gain access to the surf breaks at Trestles. These impromptu manmade paths present a safety hazard with passing trains and threaten the fragile ecosystem of Trestles.

In response, a coalition of concerned groups organized by the volunteer non-profit organization Architecture for Humanity, are launching “Safe Trestles,” an open-to-all, two-stage design competition to create a safe pathway to serve surfers, the local coastal community and day visitors to San Onofre State Beach.

Guesthouse at Seedri street / JVR Arhitektuuribüroo The resort town Pärnu is also known as the capital of Estonian functionalism. It is home to the pearls of Estonian functionalism of the 1930s – the Rannahotell (waterfront hotel), Rannahoone (beach building) and numerous functionalist villas from the same period. Grand architecture versus right architecture is the topic of this year’s International Convention of Architecture that will be held on March 6 at Istituto Italiano di Cultura, Budapest, Hungary.

G.Lab*, a department of Gansam Architects &Partners in Seoul, Korea won the International Ideas Competition for the 2012 Yeosu World Exposition Big-O.

The project’s theme is “Green Ocean, Blue Forest” and it’s expected to be complete this year.

SADAR + VUGA’s submission for the Deluxe Serviced Apartment Tower in Burj Dubai district was shaped by the ambition and inclination of the developer, Damac Properties, to erect a unique residential building in the rapidly developing area by the Burj Dubai tower. The building would be distinguished by its architectural design and image; at the same time, it would serve as a model of a functioning and energy-efficient residential building at the beginning of the 21st century.

PIQUE often engages in the practice of Guerrilla Architecture. In an effort to exercise their design process, critical eye and interest in the urban fabric, they undertake subversive interrogations & interventions. This latest research project for the Seattle Art Museum’s Olympic Sculpture Park is one such project that is beginning to get some real traction.

Designed by SADAR + VUGA, the new Butcher’s Bridge concludes the arrangement of the Jože Plecnik’s covered market from the mid-1930s. It connects the market area on the Adamic-Lunder embankment with the new market area on the regulated Petkovšek embankment.

Designed by Catalunya-based H Arquitectes, (check all their projects on ArchDaily here) this office and commercial building is located in Reus (Tarragona) at the city’s Tecnoparc.

The urban context did not show any interest because of the building will be seen from the main approach road towards the city and, therefore, due to commercial reasons, it should be a singular icon for those who drive by.
