This edition embraces a significantly broader and more diverse curatorial vision, inviting both the public and design professionals to reflect on design through global, fluid, and inclusive perspectives that move beyond traditional approaches.

The Oscar Niemeyer Award for Latin American Architecture, or ON Award, was established as an initiative of the Latin American Architecture Biennials Network (REDBAAL), founded in Quito through a constitutive act signed on November 23, 2012, during the XVIII Pan-American Architecture Biennial of Quito (BAQ 2012).
Hidden Forces is a research project dedicated to the less visible dimensions that contribute to shaping architecture. Through an exhibition and a public programme of talks, the project transforms Bologna's Pavillon de l'Esprit Nouveau into a space for investigating the processes, conditions and relationships that give form to architecture.
Every project is, in fact, the outcome of a complex system of forces that directs its choices, defines its limits and determines its possibilities. Beyond the built form, economic, political, environmental, regulatory, cultural and social dynamics contribute to defining what can be designed and built. Conceived and curated by Atelier Atollo and Politi Perugini, Hidden Forces brings these conditions to the foreground, reflecting on how architecture takes shape within the broader transformations of our time.
The exhibition brings together Federico Perugini's Relics series and four authored columns, which establish a bridge between the works and the themes of the exhibition.
Relics draws on an unpublished drawing by Le Corbusier in which the architect depicts, at full scale, the invisible section of the columns of one of his villas. The works take up this intuition but replace pictorial matter with the materials of construction: concrete and steel. They do not represent but rather present an infinitesimal section of the structure of six emblematic buildings by Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe, Letrosne, Shinohara, Nishizawa and Koolhaas, tracing a history of the reinforced-concrete frame in architecture. All six buildings are constructed and still exist today. Beyond revealing the hidden area within their columns, the Relics reproduce the invisible forces and tensions that, even now, run through their structural frames.
Organised in pairs, the works act as conceptual columns, bringing together different authors, periods and geographies to reveal affinities, contrasts and questions, synthesised through the exhibition's four themes: Tools, Relationships, Regulations and Intentions. Each theme is made tangible through an authored column conceived as a spatial and interpretative device.
Beyond their structural function, the columns reveal their capacity to produce architecture: a represented column by Archizoom Associati; a commissioned column by Duccio Maria Gambi; a construction-site column by architecten jan de vylder inge vinck / A JDVIV / A DVVT; and a column as a point of view on reality by Le Corbusier himself. These works extract and amplify the themes embedded within the exhibited pieces, connecting them to the broader economic, political, environmental, social and cultural conditions that shape architectural practice today, thereby reconstructing a map of forces and tensions that usually remain imperceptible.
The Federal University of Ceará (UFC), in partnership with the Institute of Architects of Brazil – Ceará Department (IAB/CE), has launched the National Public Competition for Architecture, Urbanism, and Landscape Design for the UFC Arts, Culture, and Events Center, a project that will occupy one of the most symbolic sites along the Fortaleza waterfront. Registration has been open since August 13 and continues until October 6, 2026, with the final deadline for proposal submissions on October 21, 2026.
The Community of Madrid and the Leganés City Council have launched an urban planning project competition to solicit the best planning proposals for the sustainable and innovative development of the new "Puerta de Madrid" neighborhood, which borders the established Leganés Norte neighborhood to the north and east. This urban development will be managed through a consortium involving both administrations.
How can daylight tackle global challenges? This question lies at the heart of Light of Tomorrow by VELUX, a global student competition that encourages architecture students to explore the future potential of daylight in the built environment. In its 12th edition, the competition received hundreds of responses from around the world, culminating in eight finalist projects presented to an international jury at the UIA World Congress of Architects in Barcelona. The 2026 global winner, Sun the Quilt, developed by students from Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology in China, was chosen for its strong concept, design thinking, and innovative use of daylight that transforms an everyday domestic ritual into an innovative facade system shaped by daylight, climate, and care.
AIA South Korea, one of six regional sections established under AIA International to connect local members more closely with the global community of the American Institute of Architects, is pleased to announce the second annual AIA South Korea Design Awards program.
Community of Madrid, (Madrid's Regional Government) and the City Council of Leganés have launched an urban planning design contest aimed at obtaining the best planning proposals for the sustainable and innovative development of the new "Puerta de Madrid" district, located adjacent to the north and east of the established Leganés Norte neighbourhood. This urban development will be managed through a consortium in which both public administrations will participate.
The area features the Butarque Stream as its main environmental structuring element, that connects with other natural areas through the Arco Verde and Bosque Metropolitano ecological corridors.
Covering more than one million square metres, this development will allocate approximately 40% of its surface area to green spaces and public open areas, while the remaining 60% will be dedicated to public facilities, tertiary uses and residential use.
Approximately 4,000 dwellings are planned within the new district. Of these, around 1,500 will be market-rate homes of various typologies, while 2,500 units will be delivered through public housing schemes or affordable rental programmes.
The selected proposals must be fully integrated into the wider urban context and will incorporate advanced criteria in the fields of environmental sustainability, urban innovation, energy efficiency, sustainable mobility, climate resilience and social cohesion.
A specialised jury will evaluate the submissions and select the three best proposals. Subsequently, through a procurement procedure, the winning teams will be eligible to compete for the award of a service contract for drafting the planning instrument that will define the urban development framework of the future district.
