The Weight of Earth

On Friday, April 12, at 7:00 PM, the Museu da Cidade (MUCI) – Fundição Lidgerwood will host the opening of O Peso da Terra (The Weight of the Earth), the first solo exhibition by architect and visual artist Alexandre Silveira. The exhibition brings together a selection of works across various media from the past decade of the artist's visual arts practice, including several previously unseen pieces, such as the video O Peso da Terra, filmed during an artist residency at Chão SLZ in São Luís, Maranhão, in 2015.

Art history on surfaces

This course presents a historical narrative of surface design, covering authors and projects involving textile patterns, wallpaper, relief cladding, and cobogós from the 18th century to the present day. It highlights significant profiles and proposals from designers such as William Kilburn, William Morris, Varvara Stepanova, Frank Lloyd Wright, Lucienne Day, Regina Gomide Graz, and Athos Bulcão, among many others, while examining the influence of various artistic movements on these creators throughout history.

In Praise of Shadows

In Praise of Shadow is the title of the famous book by Japanese author Junichiro Tanizaki, first published in 1933. In it, Tanizaki critiques the West's excess of light and the exhibitionism of forms and colors. It is also the title of a collection of poetry by Jorge Luis Borges, in which he reflects on the awareness of his own shadow and the shadow of his work, where he finds his reflection. As he writes in the poem:

Urban green infrastructure project

São Paulo, like other global metropolises, faces significant challenges in managing its water resources, including diffuse urban water pollution and flooding—consequences of an accelerated urbanization process that often overlooks the biophysical potential of its natural landscapes.
In this context, Green Infrastructure is recognized as a landscape design method capable of mitigating and treating water pollutants through the creation of multifunctional landscapes. These integrate Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) for ecological source-control management and adapt gray infrastructure to the hydrological cycle, while simultaneously reducing flood risks, providing opportunities for the revitalization of urban watercourses, and delivering additional ecosystem services to society.

First Iberian Bamboo Symposium

The First Iberian Bamboo Symposium aims to introduce a wide range of European stakeholders to the benefits of bamboo and its contributions to various areas that help meet sustainable development goals and the Paris Agreement, while encouraging new partnerships, programs, and research on bamboo applications in European markets.
