With the increasing availability of space travel on the rise, living with access to the Moon may no longer be a science fiction fantasy. For decades, Equitone has gathered inspiration for the future by the appearance and raw materials of Earth. Now, reflecting the fascination with what lies beyond our own atmosphere, its new Lunara façade panels appear both otherworldly and yet natural at the same time. Its unique surface, covered with tiny irregular elevations and depressions, is reminiscent of the cratered landscape of the Moon and invites architects and planners to design visionary building envelopes.

After an amazing response to the first Virtual World Tour, during the peak of the pandemic in late 2020 early 2021, we decided to continue our global digital approach to connect the architectural community on a personal level. Material Responsibility discusses issues of contemporary material fabrication in context to social, environmental, and construction related challenges. Researchers, designers, and builders assume the mantle of responsibility to address inherited legacies in everyday practices. This event tries to unravel not only assumptions about what and how we build, but also looks to question why, to situate our motivations and impact. In moving away from practices that simply justifies the present moment, the discussion on Material Responsibility aims to identify where our responsibilities lie in the complex global systems and networks that make up our contemporary practice.

Architectural discourse is often based on what is revealed in and by architecture, while this event draws attention to that which conversely can be hidden, concealed, omitted through architecture.
Architectures of Hiding considers apparatuses, modes, temporalities, motives, and materialities in the crafting of architecture—whether for the deployment of coercive power, exclusion, erasure, or as techniques of imagination, resistance, safety, or agency.
