Beam Center seeks design proposals for ambitious public artworks that will be brought to life through collaborations between youth and creative big thinkers. Projects will be realized by a community of more than 100 young people at each of our three 2023 Beam Project sites: in New Hampshire (NH), on Governors Island (GI), and in a local NYC community. Artists are invited to submit proposals for any or all of these three sites, but each proposal must be unique to a specific site. Artists proposing for Beam Project NYC are also encouraged to consider potential installation sites and partners, and to include these in their proposal. Winning proposals will be selected by a committee composed of Beam Center staff, youth, past project designers, and community members.

COMPETITION FORMAT:

Building a city is an ongoing, additive act of creativity. Urban centers are continually being made and remade; they are palimpsests of the values, technologies, ingenuity, and aesthetics of times that precede ours and that were vital in shaping our present. The evolution of the city depends upon designers’ ability to find ways to preserve this past, while shaping a rich and resilient ecosystem for the future.

The competition will be conducted in the form of a non-anonymous competition workshop: Competition Jury, the Competition Clients and other stakeholders will be engaged in a dialogue directly with the competition participants. The Jury will select will select up to 10 teams who will participate in the competition based on their portfolios. The shortlisted teams will work on a concept for the development of the 4th Quadrant of Victory Square. The jury will then select a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 teams to proceed with the development of their proposals. After the end of Competition Phase 2 the Competition Client will negotiate a follow-on contract with the winner of the competition.
 

The Vienna Architecture Summer School (VAS²) aims to provide an open learning space and prototypical infrastructure for the exchange and negotiation of knowledges in architecture, reaching beyond dominating institutions and mainstream discourses. The first edition of the VAS² invites local and international participants to exchange with young architects and established experts all practising in Vienna.

Drawing Fields is a series of large-scale works by Outpost Office exploring the spatial potential of notation. Each installation utilizes GPS-controlled painting robots to mark site-specific, building-size drawings at 1:1 scale. The drawing series employs techniques of measuring, delineating, and marking to investigate architecture as the dynamic performance of spatial instructions.

We are elated and excited to begin our new adventure with our debut in Hyderabad on 17th – 19th Nov 2022 at Hitex Exhibition Centre called iDAC Expo, after a riveting success of the iDAC Expo Mumbai Edition held in May 2022 at the exquisite Jio World Convention Centre.
Our aim is to create an impact with education on the development of cities via knowledge sharing platforms within the entire Built community. Hence we are extending iDAC to reach and cater to southern India.

iDAC in its editions held through 2018 to 2022 witnessed 25,000 professionals & 1400 speakers, across a 5, 00,000 sqft.

The workshop will take place in Parco degli Olivi, a beautiful olive grove on the slopes of Mt. Brione, managed by the CasaMia Association, a foundation active since 1922 and dedicated to social inclusion for disadvantaged children and teenagers.
The intervention aims to equipe the space with furnishing elements for meetings and events. During the workshop, the participants will ideate and create wood installations, following the suggestions provided by the organizers and developing eco-friendly, practical and sustainable designs based on the relationship with the landscape and its inhabitants.

35 YEARS INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY OF ARCHITECTURE

Political instability can bring about unexpected and engaging art. It can influence an individual artist’s career for a lifetime. The current upheaval in the Ukraine and the security concerns of neighboring European countries suggests echoes experiences of artists exhibited by browngrotta arts who have lived in, fled, or emigrated from repressive regimes. It weighs, too, on the minds of those working in the surrounding nations. German artist, Heidrun Schimmel says that living in a country, united and secure in NATO since 1989, "its now hard for us to learn: ... everything is hanging by a thread..."
The nearly 50 artists in the exhibition reflect diverse perspectives and experiences. Allies for Art: Work from NATO-related Countries will include art created under occupation, in the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s, art by those who left Hungary, Romania and Spain while occupied, and art by other artists who left Russia in later years. Gyöngy Laky’s family, for example, escaped from Soviet-occupied Hungary after World War II — to Austria, then America, experiences that are reflected in her politically themed works. Adela Akers’ family left Franco’s Spain, first for Cuba, then to the US. In the 1960s and early 1970s, Ritzi Jacobi’s expressive work in tapestry, abstract by nature, allowed her to circumvent the Romanian government’s preference for academic, figurative art which supported communist ideology.
Other artists in the exhibition from Eastern Europe, including Jolanta Owidzka, Zofia Butrymowicz, Anna Urbanowicz-Krowacka, and Krystyna Wojtyna-Drouet of Poland and Luba Krejci and Jan Hladik of Czechoslovakia, were introduced to US audiences in the 1960s through 1980s by Chicago gallerists Jacques and Anne Baruch who spirited their work out of countries under oppressive regimes. On August 20, 1968, for example, the Baruchs left Prague after meeting with artists, just five hours before Soviet tanks rolled into the city and brutally ended a brief period of democratic reforms. Allies for Art: Work from NATO-related Countries will also include works created by artists currently working in Europe, including Gudrun Pagter of Denmark, Åse Ljones of Norway, Włodmierz Cygan of Poland and, artists new to browngrotta arts, including Esmé Hofman of the Netherlands, Anneke Klein of Denmark, and Baiba Osite of Latvia.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a full-color catalog, which will include an essay by Kate Bonansinga, Director, School of Art, College of Design, Architec- ture, Art, and Planning at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio.
