World Urban Parks Congress 2019

International Congress World Urban Parks 2019 takes place on the 18-20th of October in Kazan. The congress is organized by the international association World Urban Parks, the government of the Tatarstan Republic and supported by the Ministry of Construction of The Russian Federation. For the first time, the international congress World Urban Parks was held in 2015 in Ponte de Lima, Portugal. Every year the event attracts more and more people. In 2018 the congress was held in Melbourne, Australia, and there were more than 700 delegates, who represented parks and social spaces of more than 50 countries.

The main topic of the congress-2019 is — «Parks and cities — the improvement for benefit of the ecological stability and health of the citizens». This year the busy business agenda World Urban Parks Congress includes reports of t120 speakers, more than 30 sessions and plenary meetings. More than 1000 Russian and foreign guests are expected. The program manager of the Congress is organized by the bureau Citymakers, this company is an expert in the field of the city development and co-author of the concept and social and cultural program of the park "Zaryadie" in Moscow. The event takes place in the International exhibition center «Kazan Expo». The congress in Kazan will study the best Russian and international approach and techniques of the park and social spaces development on every stage - from the concept to the exploitation. There will be discussed problematic areas and it will become the practical manual for park development and management in Russia. The congress will become the ground for the discussion of the main topic by the leading experts in the field of the landscape tending, the city space development, and the management of the public spaces, by the government representatives, as well as a large and small business, that supports the city development.

The business program is oriented to the discussion of the questions of both the global development of big and small municipalities and territories and the meaningful local cases, that form new trends in the city space transformation. The first day of a Congress will be devoted to the models of city management and the influence of the park and public space on the municipal development, and the second day will be devoted to the discussion of the useful tools and the realization methods of the city development policy in certain cases.

Within the frames of the Congress, two educational tracks will be held. They will be devoted to the evaluation standards of the Federal competition of the best development project for the comfortable space in small towns and the best practices of the engagement within the frames of the priority federal project "Forming of the comfortable city space". The discussion about the valuation criteria of the Federal competition among the best town space projects starts on the 18th of October and will be held for two days. The deputy minister of the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Utilities of the Russian Federation Maksim Egorov will open the discussion.

The educational track of the second Congress day (19th of October) will also include engagement sessions, during which experts from different regions of Russia will represent their cases and will discuss the possibilities of a wider citizens engagement in the development of the city space projects and creating the dialog between the participants of the project.

The attendance at the WUP-2019 confirmed international A-list celebrities, among them are: Doctor Kiat W. Tan, Former CEO, Corporate Advisor, Gardens by the Bay, Singapore; Кеn Smith, the fоunder of the New-York bureau Ken Smith Workshop, one of the author of the East River Waterfront Esplanade project, Lower Manhattan, New-York; Erion Veliaj, the mayor of Tiran; Tanya Muller – the manager and the founder of the World Urban Parks, ex- Environmental Minister of the Mexico-city (2012-2018); Gil Penyalosa – permanent ambassador, special representative of the WUP, founder of the 8 80 Сities; Henry Bava – french landscape architect, the author of the landscape improvement strategy and the municipal industrial heritage of Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands "Green Metropolis", the author of the masterplan landscape solution of the Zeche Zollverein (in cooperation with the OMA bureau), creator of the Agence Ter bureau; Marie Bowman, – partner of Gustafson Porter + Bowman.

The participants of the World Urban Parks Congress – will come from all over the world - from Australia and New Zealand, from the USA, Africa, European countries and the CIS nations. The main Park Congress is held in Tatarstan - and it means that Russia can be seen as a leader in the international question of the social spaces development and complex improvement. Kazan is the place where such a high-status event takes place - and this city deserves that. The public space development program, that was realized in Tatarstan, received wide recognition of the Republic citizens and the expert community. In 2019 it was given the International architecture award Aga Khan. It was the first project from Russia, that received it since the award foundation in 1977.

Information about the WUP

World Urban Parks is the international park and city space development organization, that was created in 2015 as a result of the merge of the International Federation of Parks and recreational amenities (Ifpra) and the Alliance of the city parks and green spaces (Parks for Life). The World Urban Parks includes representatives of the parks and public space all around the world, and the representatives of the city administrations, consulting agencies of the urban space improvement, landscape organizations, and universities - from Australia and New Zealand to the USA and Russia (Moscow and Kazan).

The Mission of the WUP is to accumulate the experience of the organization participants to develop the initiatives, leading to the improvement of the accommodation for living in the cities with high-speed urbanization all around the world. The organization supports and develops the urban parks, provides the environment preservation, teaches and accredits the park specialists from different countries, holds the Congresses, conferences, and webinars in cooperation with national, regional and local structures.

The mission of the international WUP Congress is to analyze the best international approaches and practices in the park and social space development area, as well as the formation of the park development practical manuals.
