International Architectural Symposium ''Days of Oris 19''

Days of Oris is an international architecture convention organised by Oris magazine and the Oris House of Architecture. The two-day event has been held since 2001. It presents the most significant names of the architectural and cultural scene and gathers more than 2000 visitors every year.
Days of Oris 19 will be held in Zagreb from 19 to 20 October 2019, at the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall.

At this year's Days of Oris, the following architects and designers will give lectures:


Mario Botta (Switzerland)
Studied at the University Institute of Architecture in Venice under Carlo Scarpa and Giuseppe Mazzariol, where he met and worked for Le Corbusier and Louis Kahn. His professional career began in 1970 in Lugano. He has designed family houses, schools, banks, administration buildings, libraries, museums and sacred buildings. Has taught extensively in Europe, Asia, North and South America. His work has been recognized internationally and honoured with prestigious awards, besides being presented in numerous exhibitions and publications.

3LHD (Croatia)
A collaborative architectural studio, particularly interested in the integration of architecture, art and (urban) landscape, an approach which has resulted in a series of projects and realizations in Croatia and abroad. Authors of iconic projects of contemporary Croatian architecture, such as the Memorial Bridge and Zamet Centre in Rijeka, Riva Split Waterfront and Lone Hotel.

Gustavo Utrabo (Brazil)
Earned his degree in Architecture and Urbanism from Federal University of Paraná (UFPR) in 2010. Visiting professor at the University of Hong Kong and an assistant professor at Escola da Cidade in São Paulo. For six years he was a founding partner at Aleph Zero, whose project won the 2018 RIBA International Prize and International Emerging Architect Prize. Founded Estúdio Gustavo Utrabo in 2019.

6a architects (UK)
Founded in London in 2001 by Tom Emerson and Stephanie Macdonald. Received several RIBA Awards, the Schelling Medal in 2012 and shortlisted for the Stirling Prize in 2017. Emerson was awarded the 2018 Conrad Ferdinand Meyer Prize in Zürich. Work and writings by the practice have been exhibited and published internationally. Emerson taught at the Architectural Association, Cambridge and, since 2010, has been professor of architecture at ETH Zurich. In August 2019 announced as Dean Elect at ETH Zurich.

Neno Kezić (Croatia)
Graduated from the Faculty of Architecture in Zagreb. Worked for Hopkins Architects, after which he founded office Arhipolis in Split. Teaches at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Geodesy in Split. Has won numerous awards, such as the Vladimir Nazor Award, Drago Galić Award, Bernardo Bernardi Award, Zagreb Salon Award, Artur Award and Cemex Award.

Piero Lissoni (Italy)
Lissoni Studio develops projects at an international level in the fields of architecture, product design, graphic design and corporate identity. Led by Piero Lissoni, the Studio combines a range of expertise and skills with a tailored approach that sets it apart in a variety of fields, establishing a stylistic code that is inimitable and a visual identity that is instantly recognizable. One of the most important recent realizations is the interior design project of Grand Park Hotel Rovinj.

Cristobal Palma (Chile)
Studied at the Architectural Association (AA) in London before he started his career as a photographer focused primarily on architecture, travel and reportage. Published in magazines such as The New York Times, Domus and Architectural Digest and organised several solo exhibitions. In addition to his photographic work, he also produces short architecture films, one of which was presented at the 13th Venice Architecture Biennale. In 2013 his film “Piling Up“ won the prize “Best Architecture Short Film“ at ArqFilmFest in Santiago, Chile.

Harquitects (Spain)
An architecture studio established in 2000 and based in Sabadell, Barcelona. It is managed by four partner architects, all licensed in the E.T.S.A. Vallès. They have been invited as lecturers around Europe and America and their works have been recognized with several awards and selected for local and abroad exhibitions. Two of their projects were shortlisted for the Mies van der Rohe Award 2019.

ORIS TALKS - Designing Architectural Education


This year's Days of Oris 19 brings an innovation to the program - Oris Talks, which will be held on the topic of Designing Architectural Education and attended by prominent international experts:


Martha Thorne
Dean of IE School of Architecture and Design. Since 2005, she has served as the Executive Director of the Pritzker Architecture Prize. Her interests have always focused on international contemporary architecture, cities in evolution and changes in the role of the architect. Received a Master of City Planning degree from the University of Pennsylvania and undertook additional studies at the London School of Economics. She currently serves on an international jury for several distinguished awards and lectures and assists with international architectural competitions.

Mia Roth Čerina
Associate professor at the Faculty of Architecture in Zagreb. Manages an architectural studio with Tonči Čerina. They were nominated for the Viktor Kovačić award for the kindergarten in Lanište, Zagreb. They were nominated for the Mies van der Rohe award, HKA medal and Piranesi award for the elementary school in Popovača. They won the Viktor Kovačić award in 2018. In addition to teaching and practical work, Roth Čerina is engaged in a number of activities that rise awareness of the culture of space and the development of architectural education.

Tom Emerson
With Stephanie Macdonald, Emerson founded the 6a architects office in London in 2001, which has won several RIBA awards, the Schelling Medal 2012 and shortlisted for the Stirling 2017. The projects and theoretical works of the office have been exhibited and published outside the UK. In 2018, he was awarded the Conrad Ferdinand Meyer Award in Zurich. He has taught at colleges like AA, Cambridge and ETH Zurich. In August 2019 he was elected Dean of ETH Zurich.

Tadej Glažar
Slovenian architect, professor and associate dean at the Faculty of Architecture in Ljubljana, key figure of Slovenian architectural scene. Graduated from the Faculty of Architecture in Ljubljana and gained his master’s degree at the Berlage Institute in Amsterdam. Won the Piranesi and Plečnik Award for the primary school in Kočevje and Domofin Award for office and warehouse building in Grosuplje.

Vedran Mimica
Professor of architecture and spatial planning at the IIT, Chicago. He joined the Berlage Institute in Rotterdam in 1990, where he served as dean. He has taught at the Architectural Association, ETH, Sorbonne, Columbia, MIT, UCLA and the Catholic University of Chile, Santiago. Was an independent expert for the Mies van der Rohe Award of the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture and in 2013, with Wiel Arets, he launched the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize.

Exhibition:
As part of Days of Oris 19, an exhibition of Chilean architectural photographer and short film author Cristóbal Palma, Caracoles, will open in the Oris House of Architecture (Kralja Držislava 3, Zagreb, Croatia).
