14th Curitiba Biennial presents artworks by Sergei Tchoban

14th Curitiba Biennial presents Sergei Tchoban for the first time with the concept "Open Borders" by Tereza de Arruda and Adolfo Montejo Navas, the event aims to establish reflection on the relationship between subjects and spaces.

In 2019, Curitiba International Biennial of Contemporary Art enters its 14th edition and announces its curatorial concept, signed by the brazilian Tereza de Arruda and the spanish Adolfo Montejo Navas: "Open Borders" is the theme that aligned the edition, that will happen from September 21st 2019 to March 1st 2020. The thematic proposal is a dialogue of deconstruction of the notions of physical boundaries, and the transformations they undergo over time and from the relations between subject and space. In this 14th edition, the countries members of the group BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) will be honored with a highlighted participation of contemporary artists from these countries.

For the first time, under the curatorship of Tereza de Arruda and Esenija Bannan, the Curitiba Biennial will present the architect and visual artist Sergei Tchoban as invited artist. Tchoban’s artworks will be exhibited in Oscar Niemeyer Museum, in Curitiba, main venue of the Biennial and the biggest museum of Latin America. Sergei Tchoban is an architect and artist based in Berlin and Moscow. In his drawings Tchoban explores the real and imagined structures of a metropolis with its future architecture and historical heritage. Some of his drawings are of cities in the water captured in an imaginative diary of an (imaginative) traveller; others are urban visions with fantastical glass bridges. They are significant but do not take a center role, the exploration of theatre, stage as well as exhibition design is also a part of his artistry.
