MAM'19 - MAIA Architecture Month - Fast Forward

1.03.2019 - 31.03.2019

MAM'19 is once again offering an ambitious program, proposing a 100-year-old territory preview with the participation of 8 emerging architecture studios and 4 architecture critics.

Fast Foward, the theme of MAM'19, has expanded its audience. It is now bilingual and intends to explore the future and themes that are inseparable from it: territory, landscape, environment, architecture, technology, mobility and society.

The initiative, promoted by the City Council of Maia, was created by Atelier Andreia Garcia Architectural Affairs of the Portuguese architect Andreia Garciam, who is also curating the event.

The 2nd edition of Maia Architecture Month focuses on a program that proposes new ideas for the future of the city of Maia. Here, emerging and internationally-recognized architects and critics are invited to imagine, expose, discuss, reflect and revisit the architecture of the city of Maia in the year 2119 in a utopian and dystopian form.

From the creation of a set of texts, models, rigorous drawings, illustrations, collages, installations, virtual reality, and artistic readings, the combination of visions that results from this exhibition departs from the city under study and extends to the world. It appeals to critical reflection, more or less prophetic, as a provocation to increase the discussion about the future of cities.

Four Portuguese architecture critics will also produce prospective reflections at MAM'19:

Inês Moreira holds a doctorate in Architecture and is a curator, publisher, and teacher. She studies ruined architectures, collective memories, and other artificial territories, like landscapes or post-industrial spaces; Joaquim Moreno holds a doctorate in Architecture and is a professor. As a curator, he participated in the Portuguese representation at the Venice Biennale in 2008. Pedro Bandeira is an architect and the President of the School of Architecture of the University of Minho. He is the author of several publications in the field of architectural culture, having been awarded with the Architecture Critics Prize of AICA / Fundação Carmona e Costa. As a curator, he has collaborated with several institutions. Susana Ventura holds a doctorate in Architecture and in Philosophy. She is a curator, writer, and researcher of intensive architecture. She was a curator (with Pedro Gadanho and João Laia) of the exhibition Utopia / Dystopia for the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology of Lisbon (MAAT). This prominent group will also be responsible for moderating a series of four debates with the participants of the event on March 8th.

The exhibition will take place from March 1-31 at the Maia Forum (Tuesday to Sunday, 09h to 22h), admission is free (at the exhibition and in the debates).
