XX OSSA Architectural Workshops

OSSA architectural workshop is a yearly initiative of the Polish Association of Architecture Students. This year’s edition will take place between October 15th to 23rd in Zakopane. From 1997 the workshop OSSA is organized by architecture students as a grass roots initiative aiming to broaden skills by exchange of experience and cooperation with best architects, as well as artists, sociologists and activists working in Poland and abroad. The idea of the workshop appeared to be so intriguing and timeless that constantly for 20 years now we gather not only during the workshop, but on plein-air events, competitions and didactic trips

This year's host; Zakopane is a town of peculiar meaning to our entire country. It used to be a centre of culture, inspiring leading Polish artists. It was a popular touristic destination of high society, which took advantage of its . It is the birthplace of Art Neauvea’s regional style, which then had an immense impact on architecture in entire country.

Nowadays it is a typical touristic destination, still cultivating regional folklore which attracts crowds of visitors.Unfortunately the business not only produces income, but destroys the town. On the main pedestrian path dominate Chinese souvenirs, advertisements, and a chain of 7D cinemas. Now we can observe beauty of tradition and culture just next to those commercialization creations which are more and more equal citizen of this town which can maybe create new source of inspiration. Since our topic is RównoRegle (Parallel) we will try to present those two aspect of Zakopane as an equal.

Moreover, one topic will be consider from different perspectives; each tutor and team will cooperate with another expert from different background (sociologist, multimedia artist, biologist, sculptor, etc). Second aspect of topic are architectural tendencies; Low-Tech and Hi-Tech. We will promote clay and straw on one hand- and parametric design with Robotic arm on another.

We have also planned two main lectures showing opposite approach to context and tradition: first made by Juhani Pallasma (The Eyes of the Skin) with Jerome Picard (3rw Architects; Norway) - and second by Cristiano Ceccato fromm Zaha Hadid Archtiects (pending confirmation).
