ZigZagCity 2016

This 3rd edition of the architecture festival ZigZagCity lets you explore the Hoogkwartier neighbourhood in Rotterdam. This is a postwar-reconstruction area of national importance. This unique route is off the beaten track, zigzagging through the streets of Rotterdam. You will come across buildings with breathtaking vistas. Discover how the city acts as a stage for art, film, dance and music. Architects, visual artists and programme makers will take you on a journey. See the city of Rotterdam from a completely new perspective.

From Thursday 16 June through to Sunday 26 June ZigZagCity will turn the Hoogkwartier area in Rotterdam inside out. Architects, visual artists and local businesses will reveal the enormous potential of this urban landscape. Hoogkwartier is a neighbourhood full of lively bars, shops, with car parks, tennis courts, an art institution, a hotel and an auction house. The urban structure of this unknown part of Rotterdam’s city centre is typical of the post-war reconstruction period. It has delivery streets, which divide the housing blocks. These delivery streets are all part of a necklace, as it were, linking together the locations of this alternative route like beads on a chain. ZigZagCity is programming this special neighbourhood for 10 days in the most original way: featuring art installations, dance performances, film screenings, guided tours and exhibitions.
