The AA Visiting School Samarkand, Imagined Skies, takes place at the Observatory of Ulugbek, a machine built to observe the sky, serves as a departure point for participants to engage with broader issues of climate change, heritage, and astronomy.

The School's agenda explores the intersection of climate change and heritage through the medium of vision. Supported by the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation, the ten-day workshop explores through the different layers of the Observatory of Ulugbek how we perceive the world and how we choose to represent it. Participants are invited to collaboratively interact with archival material, research, artistic practices, and the region's complex history to develop projects that emerge from a sensitivity to both, our sense of vision as well as the history of the site.
