Now more than ever, the future of our cities is a primary concern for many Brazilians. The COVID-19 pandemic has laid bare the structural, social, and environmental deficiencies of urban centers, demanding new and urgent responses. This presents an enormous challenge for current and future administrators to be elected later this year.
With the goal of discussing these challenges and gathering input for the "Letter to Candidates in the 2020 Municipal Elections," the CAU/BR and six representative organizations for architecture and urbanism professionals and students will host a series of six live-streamed events in July titled "Novas Cidades 2021." These organizations—members of the CEAU (College of National Architecture and Urbanism Entities)—include the IAB (Institute of Architects of Brazil), the FNA (National Federation of Architects and Urbanists), the ABEA (Brazilian Association for Architecture and Urbanism Education), the AsBEA (Brazilian Association of Architectural Offices), the ABAP (Brazilian Association of Landscape Architects), and the FeNEA (National Federation of Architecture and Urbanism Students). The initiative is supported by UOL, Brazil's largest internet portal.
