This week marks the opening of "Construcción / Villa 31," an exhibition by Cristóbal Palma at GALLO (Galería Lo Contador), a space dedicated to the interdisciplinary intersection of design, architecture, and contemporary culture.
Produced during multiple visits prior to the pandemic, this documentation of Villa 31 addresses a specific and emblematic urban situation within the City of Buenos Aires. The site functions as an island within the capital, with an urban typology and modes of living distinct from the surrounding city.
The photographs, presented here in large format, depict informal structures surrounded by fences and cables in densely populated alleys, as well as the interior of one of these homes, revealing the multiplicity of formal and cultural elements that shape a landscape structured by a historically marginalized population.
