Remote Residencies is an initiative emerging from the Architecture program at Campus Creativo in collaboration with the Outreach department of the Universidad Andrés Bello. It is an [inter-trans-multi]disciplinary project that aims to open a discussion on contemporary topics based on a question and an image, which will be materialized as an installation at Galería Rocamar, located on the first floor of Campus Creativo in Viña del Mar, Chile.
For this second edition of Remote Residencies, 27 proposals were submitted from 10 countries: Uruguay, Mexico, Spain, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Germany, Venezuela, Portugal, and Chile. These submissions introduced a wide diversity of topics, which were reviewed by an international jury composed of Gabriela Carrillo (Taller Gabriela Carrillo + Colectivo C733); Amaia Sánchez-Velasco, Gonzalo Valiente Oriol, and Jorge Valiente Oriol (Grandeza Studio); Carolina Tobler (Co-director of the Diploma in Project Research, FADU, Udelar); Pablo Langlois (Director of the School of Art, Campus Creativo, UNAB); Gabriela Medrano (Cultural Director of Persa Víctor Manuel and Internationalization Coordinator for the School of Architecture, UNAB); and Juan Paulo Alarcón (Director of the School of Architecture, Surco Arquitectos).
The selection prioritized initiatives that posed a contingent and relevant research question. Based on this, Uruguayan architects Diego Morera and Sebastián Lambert were selected as the winners. The jury voted anonymously, basing their decision on the content of the submitted projects. Two honorable mentions were awarded to the proposals "El Mar Menor" by Estudio Brava and "Not All That Glitters Is Gold" by the team of Farah Alkhoury, León Duval, Rubén Gómez, Teresa Paez, and Nicolás Sánchez.
