The "The Work of Others" series is organized by the Center for Studies in Contemporary Architecture at Torcuato Di Tella University.
For this session, Ricardo Fernández Rojas will introduce Ignacio Montaldo, founder of the Buenos Aires-based architecture firm moarqs.
Ignacio Montaldo is an architect who graduated from the Faculty of Architecture, Design, and Urbanism at the University of Buenos Aires, where he has been a doctoral candidate since 2016. He currently serves as an Adjunct Professor at the same institution and as a Professor for the courses Project II and Construction III at the Torcuato Di Tella University School of Architecture and Urban Studies. He has taught at the National University of San Martín and the University of Palermo. In 2017, he was a visiting professor at the Universidad de la Gran Colombia. In 2016, he founded the Architectural Documents Laboratory at the UNSAM Institute of Architecture, serving as its director until 2022. That same year, he founded the DocsArq archive, a collection of architectural documents.
In 2004, he founded the architecture firm moarqs in Buenos Aires. The firm defines its work at the intersection of tectonic and thermodynamic perspectives on the architectural object, addressing the tensions between generic repetition and spatial specificity. Architectural decisions are grounded in ideological and programmatic simplicity, focusing on user comfort, structural economy, and construction logic, while promoting flexible structures capable of future iterations and uses. His work has received numerous awards and distinctions in both architectural competitions and national and international biennials.
