
The exhibition "Future References: Architecture and 3D Printed Construction" presents 3D-printed elements at the Prototype Laboratory (PEP-Lab) of the Construction Technologies Research Center (CITEC) at the University of Bío-Bío. These were created by the UBB Additive Manufacturing in Construction group, which includes architects, construction engineers, civil engineers, and automation engineers, in collaboration with undergraduate and graduate students, companies, and professionals.
The elements were executed using parametric design and a Kuka robot with a 2.5-meter reach, as well as Delta and Cartesian printers, utilizing cementitious mixtures, polymers, and clay in both full-scale and model formats. Also on display are pieces made of geo- and biopolymers inspired by the Diaguita culture, part of the "Translucent Artificial Poetics" project led by architect Paula Ulloa and artist Carolina Lolas.
These elements demonstrate the potential of 3D-printed architecture, suggesting new morphologies and construction capabilities that serve as future benchmarks for building. Images of the new industrial printer to be installed at the University of Bío-Bío are also on display. Measuring 6.5 meters wide and 3.5 meters high, the printer is capable of printing entire houses, promoting new housing solutions.
The exhibition will be open from May 23 to 26, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM and from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, at the Concepción College of Architects hall, located at Tucapel 452, at the corner of Barros Arana.
