The 1st Seminar on Contemporary Architectures in Brazil [arq.con.br] will take place in Fortaleza, Ceará, at SEBRAE Ceará, from April 1 to 4, 2025, under the main theme HYBRID FRONTIERS. The event is organized by the Laboratory of Criticism in Architecture, Urbanism, and Urbanization [LoCAU], affiliated with the Graduate Program in Architecture, Urbanism, and Design [PPGAU+D] at the Institute of Architecture, Urbanism, and Design [IAUD] of the Federal University of Ceará [UFC], and is coordinated by professors Ricardo Paiva and Bruno Braga from the UFC Architecture and Urbanism program.
The seminar is a pioneer in systematizing the network discussion on contemporary architectures in Brazil and will feature lectures by renowned national and international architects. The program also includes the presentation and publication of full papers and the presentation of design experiences in two categories: final thesis projects and built works, in addition to book launches dedicated to the theme.
This first edition of the event emerged from the involvement of a network of professors and researchers focused on the theme of contemporary architecture in Brazil, which has already resulted, both collectively and individually, in publications in journals, proceedings, and books, as well as participation in forums and debates. The network brings together national researchers from universities across Brazil's five regions [UFC, UFMG, UFRN, UFPB, UFPE, UFAL, UFAM, UnB, USP, and UFRGS], who have dedicated themselves—through theoretical, historical, and critical perspectives, but above all through design practice—to research and the production of knowledge regarding the diversity of contemporary architectural manifestations.
