Green Infrastructure - Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) for Urban Water Management
Green Infrastructure is a landscape design method based on creating a network of blue-green landscapes (vegetation and water systems) that perform infrastructural functions while providing ecosystem services to cities. In green infrastructure, design is approached through the biogeophysical potential and limitations of the landscape. Water management is achieved through design techniques known as Nature-Based Solutions—such as rain gardens, bioswales, vegetated infiltration basins, and constructed wetlands—which adapt existing infrastructure to the hydrological cycle and other natural processes.
Green Infrastructure is a design method capable of addressing emerging issues in contemporary cities directly related to water resource management and the scarcity of green areas, such as flooding, water pollution, climate change, mobility, and public health, without compromising urban development.
