The 1st Colloquium: Woman, City, and Architecture was held on October 17–18, 2019, in Salvador, Bahia, organized by the LAB20 research group of PPGAU/UFBA and ELAS of FAU/UnB. The event was established with a dual objective: to discuss architecture and urbanism through the experience and contributions of women in the city, and to foster collaboration among researchers who have been exploring this theme from multiple and diverse perspectives.
The 2nd Colloquium, originally planned for the following year, was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and took place virtually in Brasília on March 26–27, 2021. At the beginning of that year, the COVID-19 situation unfortunately brought to light a series of issues concerning women, the profession, and the city; many of these issues suffered and regressed due to the political and economic situation still facing the country. From this perspective, we understood the need to expand the debate, seeking to understand the state of the art in current research, to invest in the strengthening and connection of active research groups, and, fundamentally, to reflect on the role of women in the profession and in political participation.
These two meetings were instrumental in understanding, on one hand, how the proposed theme was gaining significant traction in other spaces (roundtables, thematic panels, individual and collective research, publications, etc.) and, on the other, the void regarding specialized seminars in Brazil. It was precisely with this in mind that we took on a new challenge: to change the scale of the event, transitioning from a Colloquium to a Seminar.
