The complex, multidisciplinary challenges of the 21st century demand professionals capable of understanding problems from multiple perspectives. At the same time, they must possess solid experience in integrating top-tier technical skills with a deep understanding of the economic, cultural, and social context of technologies.
Design has held many meanings over time. It is drawing in an organized way, developing a precise description of an artifact, producing the plan by which something could be realized, or projecting something that will occur in the future. It also involves considering aesthetics, recognizing a society and its culture, and making proposals committed to them. In other words, to design is also to propose—beyond pragmatic technique—an ideology.
