José Pinto Duarte, leader of the finalist team for the NASA Mars Habitat Challenge, will be in Chile from March 12 to 14 to deliver lectures in Santiago and Concepción.
Currently focused on developing new housing solutions using 3D-printed construction, drawing on the experience gained from the space competition, Dr. Pinto Duarte—a faculty member at Penn State University and former researcher at MIT—will deliver two lectures. He will also engage with national teams implementing this technology in the country and visit local companies currently industrializing residential construction.
The first lecture will take place on Tuesday, March 12, at CTEC-Laguna Carén in Santiago, and the second on Thursday, March 14, at CITEC-Universidad del Bío-Bío, where several 3D-printing construction projects have already been developed. Pinto Duarte’s work has focused on coordinating robotic construction printing teams across various environmental conditions and materials, as well as studying the new architectural designs emerging from this technology. Pinto Duarte’s visit is supported by the ANID Exploratory project 13220156 and Fondecyt 1221730, conducted jointly by the University of Bío-Bío and the University of Chile.
