The third edition of the Architecture Students Seminar (SEA), aimed at architecture students, professionals, and the general public in Ecuador, will take place on January 25–26, 2019. Organized by the National Organization of Architecture Students (ONEA Ecuador) in collaboration with the Universidad Laica Eloy Alfaro, the University of Guayaquil, the Catholic University of Santiago de Guayaquil, and the Indoamerica Technological University, the event will be hosted at the Universidad Laica Eloy Alfaro.
The seminar’s main theme is urban regeneration, which will be explored by guest speakers from various universities across the country. Afternoon sessions will include visits to key sites in Manta and Portoviejo that have undergone post-earthquake urban planning interventions implemented by the municipalities of both cities. These tours will feature discussions on the design and reconstruction process of the affected areas, led by representatives from the Decentralized Autonomous Governments.
According to the 2010 Toledo Declaration, urban regeneration is defined as "the achievement of smarter, more sustainable, and socially inclusive urban development." This implies that beyond urban and architectural considerations, equal importance will be placed on social, cultural, environmental, and economic factors.
