The application process is now open for the first edition of Comuns, a virtual laboratory for experimental and participatory architecture, organized by Marcella Arruda and Marina Frúgoli in partnership with the Marieta cultural center in São Paulo, Brazil. The laboratory aims to foster the exchange of new experiences and reflections on social, ecological, and political technologies for transforming Latin American territories.
The event will take place twice a week, in 2.5-hour virtual sessions, from September 16 to October 21, 2020. Structured horizontally and built around dialogue, the laboratory will host a group of up to 30 participants from Latin America via the online platform ZOOM, using "Portunhol." To participate, interested individuals must apply through the registration form by August 16, 2020.
Wednesdays will feature "conversatórios" (conversations): dialogues between three Latin American collectives invited to present their trajectories and the processes involved in their architectural work, outlining methods, strategies, and concerns for potential future paths. Thursdays will be dedicated to "imagination exercises": in groups of up to 15 people, participants will discuss, problematize, and reflect on the theme presented the previous day, exchanging references and experiences in a horizontal manner. Small exercises linked to each week's theme will be proposed and shared, potentially serving as tools for more integrated territorial engagement.
