On August 23 at 7:00 PM, at IAB SP, the project Gustavo Penna 73/23 – 50 Years of Architecture, Design, and Word will launch the first volume of a five-book collection to be produced through 2023. Titled Gustavo Penna 73/83, the book covers the architect’s first decade of work, including their mentors, professional colleagues, and the early years of the firm, assembling a vast chronological puzzle.
The publication offers readers analyses from researchers across various architecture schools: Rosana Parisi, Esther Cervini de Melo, Larissa Pereira, and João Marcelo Danza Gandini from PUC Minas Poços de Caldas; Flávio Carsalade and Adriana Sales from UFMG; Maria Teresa Diniz from USP Cidades (PECE-Poli); and Luís Antônio Jorge from FAUUSP. It also features a preface by former State Secretary and member of the Academia Mineira de Letras, Ângelo Oswaldo de Araújo Santos. Through these pages, readers can trace the maturation of Gustavo Penna’s creative practice—from their time in architecture school to their professional debut, the process of making and remaking, experimentation, dialogue with others, and the practical perception of spaces and the relationships between them and the people who inhabit them.
