The Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) is pleased to announce the launch of the Global Summer School 2019 - Becoming, the 12th edition of the international summer program on the future of our cities, which will take place in Barcelona and simultaneously at other nodes around the world from July 1 to 14, 2019.
The Global Summer School (GSS) is a platform defined by its ambitious, multiscalar research into the implications of emerging techniques within our urban environments. Each year, international teams based in key cities around the world explore a common agenda through projects integrated into diverse local conditions. This provides participants with an international laboratory to test their design hypotheses, understanding how locally developed conclusions can be tested and implemented globally across the various cities where other teams are based.
This two-week intensive course connects participants with ongoing research programs at other nodes, covering robotics, simulation, physical computing, parametric design, digital fabrication, and other emerging design methodologies. Special emphasis is placed on understanding the multiscalar implications of design and architectural findings, thereby fostering advanced critical research into the application of new technologies within the urban realm.
