The Umbra Light Festival Vitoria-Gasteiz will illuminate iconic spaces within the city's historic center—known as the Medieval Almond—and the Ensanche district of the Alavese capital on February 21, 22, and 23, from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM. The event aims to establish the city and the surrounding territory as a premier tourist, cultural, and technological destination.
The festival's inaugural edition, sponsored by the Basque Government's Department of Tourism, Trade and Consumer Affairs, the Provincial Council of Álava, and the Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council, will feature a night tour of 18 light installations. These works were selected by the organization from 70 artistic proposals, as announced today during the official press conference. The presentation included the Mayor of Vitoria-Gasteiz, Gorka Urtaran; the Provincial Deputy for Employment Promotion, Trade and Tourism, Cristina González; and the Director of Tourism for the Basque Government, Maider Etxebarria, alongside Carlos Torrijos, Joaquín Pérez-Goicoechea, and Rafael Gallego, members of the event's management and organizing team.
The vast majority (14) of the interventions to be exhibited at the Umbra Light Festival are original works, created exclusively for this edition and tailored to the city and their specific locations.
