The AA Visiting School Mexico is a summer workshop based in Oaxaca, Mexico. The Visiting School offers the opportunity to experience the Architectural Association's experimental culture firsthand in the heart of Oaxaca city. It is open to current architecture and design students, PhD candidates, and young professionals in related disciplines: architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, planning, geography, civil engineering, etc.
This year, the workshop returns to Oaxaca during the summer of 2018 to investigate the theme of urbanization, its interdependence with rural territories, and its consequences on remote landscapes and territories. To address this, the workshop will use Oaxaca as a case study and Metropolitan Design as a tool to propose alternative scenarios. The methodology will rely on landscape and ecology models as a lens through which to achieve a systemic approach to existing urban territories, fostering critical thinking to examine their viability.
