Vila Flores is an architectural complex of historical and cultural value located in the 4th District of Porto Alegre. Its buildings, designed in 1928 by engineer-architect Joseph Lutzenberger, are listed in the Inventory of Cultural Heritage of Real Estate of the Floresta Neighborhood as "Structuring" properties and are situated within an area of cultural interest in the city.
Through its revitalization experience, Vila Flores is hosting a free workshop on heritage education. The virtual meeting “When Preservation and Education Meet” proposes reflections on the importance of tangible and intangible heritage, presenting their experiences in the conservation process. The activity also encourages playful exercises that raise awareness among participants and connect art and culture to these initiatives. During the live stream, the “Heritage Education Notebook” will be launched—a free educational resource, available in both Portuguese and English, that presents proposals for fostering collective memory.
The live stream will take place on April 12 at 6:00 PM via youtube.com/vilaflores. The workshop is open to the public and will be led by João Felipe Wallig, manager of the Vila Flores architectural core, and Sofia Perseu, manager of the Vila Flores educational core. The event “When Preservation and Education Meet: The Vila Flores Experience” is a counterpart to the Municipal Secretariat of Culture of the Porto Alegre City Hall, made possible by funds from Law No. 14.017/2020 (Aldir Blanc Law).
