The 10th Docomomo North and Northeast Seminar, to be held from October 3 to 5, 2024, in Campina Grande, Paraíba, aims to reflect on and discuss the urgent need to shift toward a preservation policy more focused on the conservation of modern heritage. Specifically, the event directs the discussion toward concepts of modernity, tectonics, and the pathologies of modern buildings, while also addressing the paths to be taken for documentary safeguarding, which serves as the foundation for heritage preservation work.
The objective of the event is to examine what is actually being done by preservation agencies, academia, architecture professionals and related fields, professional associations, and other social and cultural agents operating in Brazil's North and Northeast regions to foster a more effective and efficient policy that seeks practical actions for preserving the cultural memory of modernity in its various forms.
There is a primary need to "theorize less and act more," considering that processes of devaluation, loss of character, demolition, and loss of documentation—among others—are hindering the preservation of the material and immaterial cultural heritage of modernity. We must discuss, together, possibilities for reversing this scenario.
