This course offers a historical overview of the development of digital communication technologies and their relationship with urban space. We will also explore why a movement known as "smart cities" exists today, as well as the implications and limitations of distributing this "intelligence" throughout cities.
Our goal is to provide participants with critical tools for interpreting and intervening in hyperconnected urban environments.
The course is relevant for architects, urban planners, designers, communicators, educators, and anyone seeking to understand the socio-environmental impacts of digital technologies.
