The 17th Latin American Architecture Seminar (17 SAL.ec) is an academic event dedicated to reflecting on the local and universal circumstances shaping architectural production, the city, territorial transformations, and the landscape of the Latin American continent. Since 1985, it has brought together researchers, educators, and creators to engage with themes defined for each seminar.
The 17 SAL.ec meeting will take place simultaneously across several Ecuadorian cities, in both virtual and in-person formats. Coordination is led by the Inter-University Network of Urban Studies of Ecuador (CiviTIC) and the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador (PUCE).
The seminar will span three days, from November 14 to 16, 2018. The themes to be addressed—one per day—are territory and landscape, the city, and architecture. Each theme is interwoven with three theoretical axes: solidarity, austerity, and identity—principles that bridge the local and the global across the continent.
