The Arq.Futuro Cities Laboratory launches a course on housing policies in Brazil
From January 29 to February 3, the Arq.Futuro Cities Laboratory at Insper will host the course "Housing Policies: Results and Challenges." Classes will be held in person in Vila Olímpia, São Paulo, where students will examine the various mechanisms adopted by the government in the pursuit of solutions and the guarantee of housing as a constitutional right.
According to the João Pinheiro Foundation (2021), the housing deficit in Brazil is equivalent to nearly six million homes. The housing units in this study are divided into three categories: precarious housing (1,482,585), cohabitation (1,358,374), and excessive rent burden (3,035,739). This short-term course is grounded in this context, as well as the scenario of housing concentration in the periphery and the interests of various urban stakeholders.
