“Map Room” opens on November 7
The Instituto Cervantes presents an exhibition by Spanish artist Pablo Sycet at its Rio de Janeiro headquarters
Conceived as an emotional adventure, “Map Room,” a solo exhibition by Pablo Sycet featuring mixed-media works on paper, explores the artist's affective memories, recalling their first visits to several Brazilian cities two decades ago. Using the airplane as a starting point and narrative framework, the artist expanded their travel experience to include other cities that were fundamental—and sentimental—to the painter's future. In the exhibition, which opens on November 7 at the Instituto Cervantes in Botafogo, Pablo utilizes random cartographic fragments from São Paulo, Havana, Istanbul, Lisbon, New York, Madrid, and Granada. For the exhibition's debut, “Map Room,” an eponymous poem by Juan Manuel Bonet, was published alongside several paintings from the series. The traveling exhibition, previously shown at the Instituto Cervantes in São Paulo, is presented in collaboration with the Olontia Foundation.
