Naturas: As I See It
Claudia Jaguaribe has chosen Rio de Janeiro to present an unprecedented exhibition featuring 50 works, including a video, sculptures, and pieces created through Artificial Intelligence.
The landscape and the botanical universe were early influences in Claudia Jaguaribe’s life, as they were among the primary interests of her grandfather, Francisco, a geographer and author of a significant portion of Brazilian cartography. This early attraction to the subject proved decisive in the artist’s trajectory, sharpening her gaze and deepening her exploration of landscape and nature. "Naturas: As I See It," which recently opened at the Paço Imperial and is curated by Heloísa Amaral Peixoto, brings together works from a research project that began with the 2004 series "Tudo é Sofia" and extends to more recent, previously unseen works created with Artificial Intelligence in "Viveiro" (2023). On September 15, the artist and the curator will lead a guided tour starting at 12:00 PM.
With a busy schedule both nationally and internationally—having completed projects at the Usina de Arte (Recife), exhibitions in São Paulo, and a participation this year in the Festival Off and On, *Brasil Imprevisto*, in Arles (France), where her work was displayed on an outdoor screen—Jaguaribe chose Rio to showcase this selection of past and current works, all of which address environmental issues. Occupying the Amarela and Mestre Valentim rooms, the exhibition presents a dual research focus: a personal vision on how to portray landscape and nature, and the radical changes that have occurred in photography within our visual culture. The initial works were created analogically, using a simple pinhole camera, while the latest pieces utilize digital photography and, in their most advanced stage, incorporate AI.
