On April 17, 2024, the Paço Imperial will open three simultaneous exhibitions: "Transmutações: alquimia e resistência" [Transmutation: Alchemy and Resistance] by Rio-based artist Marcela Cantuária, one of the most prominent names in the contemporary visual arts scene; "Davuls de Salé" by São Paulo-based artist Cadu, in collaboration with Adriano Motta, Maneno Juárez, and Virgilio Bahde; and "bassa danza" by Rio-based artist Nathan Braga.

As one of the most prominent figures in the contemporary visual arts scene, Marcela Cantuária will present the exhibition "Transmutações: alquimia e resistência," featuring recent and previously unseen works. Curated by Aldones Nino with curatorial assistance from Andressa Rocha, the show will include approximately 20 works by the Rio-based artist, who has not held a solo exhibition in Rio de Janeiro for five years. On the opening day, at 5:00 PM, a guided tour will be held with Marcela Cantuária and Andressa Rocha. The exhibition is presented by the Federal Government, the Ministry of Culture, the Rio de Janeiro State Government, and the Rio de Janeiro State Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy, through the Paulo Gustavo Law.
"Cantuária does not limit herself to painting; she conjures, engaging daily in a practice that resembles magic, capable of reshaping reality, redefining narratives, and transforming perspectives. Like a contemporary alchemist, each canvas acts as an enchantment, a call to reflection and transformation. She proposes a constant reinvention of artistic creation, establishing connections between multiple temporalities," the curators state in the text accompanying the exhibition.
