Architecture in the City Workshop

The AAP (Alternative Academic Project) is the result of an interest in fostering an alternative debate regarding architecture, urban planning, and landscape. We believe that contemporary education is built upon small components with a strong emphasis on diversity and internationality. Practice as an exercise of the architectural profession, with the intent of offering intellectual freedom, is fundamental to the future of the discipline. Through this project, we seek to blur boundaries and bring people together. The AAP aims to be an organization of professionals capable of providing concrete responses to territorial transformations, serving as a critical complement to architecture schools.

The workshop is developed around three core ideas that form the backbone of the program: Diversity: an integrative, interdisciplinary approach. Sharing: shared creativity to build the capacity for dialogue. Learning: understanding derived from observation, participation, and experience. Creativity must be at the origin of the concept and shared by all participants, serving as the common thread throughout the process. Everything is a result of creativity.

The program is structured into three parts:
Creative Space: A general program where each group can work on their proposal using different languages and approaches, aiming to develop the ability to stand out conceptually and communicate decisively within a short timeframe. The work is supervised by a team of AAP instructors. Open Space: A series of lectures and the closing of the International Workshop, featuring the presentation of the work produced, open to the general public. Excursions: Visits within the city of Belo Horizonte and surrounding territories.
