“Painting and Its Mysteries” opens on April 1st
Recent works by Newman Schutze are featured in a solo exhibition at Sergio Gonçalves Galeria in São Paulo, curated by Marcus Lontra
With a career spanning over 40 years, Newman Schutze remains steadfastly faithful to his essence as a painter. This is evidenced in “Painting and Its Mysteries,” an exhibition opening on April 1st, curated by Marcus de Lontra Costa. The show features 30 works produced in 2024, ranging from small and medium to large formats of up to 1.80 meters, mostly utilizing mixed media on canvas (with some mixed media on paper). Newman, who traditionally does not title his works, has this time “named” them using terms provided by psychotic patients from workshops he conducted. These new canvases, presented at Sergio Gonçalves Galeria, also explore bolder colors, with brushstrokes that signal a return to figurative art.
