The Arquitetas II Exhibition, organized at the University of Beira Interior (UBI) within the Integrated Master’s in Architecture program at the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture, seeks to highlight academic work produced for the History of Architecture III course, as well as the women architects studied within those projects.
Synopsis: The visibility of women architects within the established history of architecture is minimal and does not do justice to their actual, effective presence in the making of cities and architecture. Consequently, the goal for the semester was to focus on those who have been excluded from history books: the women architects who, over the last two centuries, have strengthened and expanded the ways of making, thinking, and questioning architecture. Only the emergence and work of platforms such as Un día / una arquitecta or the research project W.ARCH.pt. Arquitectas em Portugal: Construção da visibilidade (1942-1986), among others, have allowed these exercises to gradually be carried out with students. This exhibition also serves as a tribute to those who bring to light that which has been denied academic existence.
